Navy Veteran J. W. DeWitt Introduces the Cole Mackey Thriller Series
Ghosts of the Breach follows a retired Navy SEAL into a conspiracy sparked by the murder of a former teammate.
October 12, 2026 — Author J. W. DeWitt brings the perspective of 14 years in the United States Navy to Ghosts of the Breach, the first novel in the Cole Mackey Thriller Series. The military suspense story follows a retired Navy SEAL whose quiet life is shattered by the murder of a man he once served beside.
Senior Chief Cole Mackey has traded military operations for solitude in the North Georgia mountains. When his former teammate Marcus Hale is killed in Savannah, a mysterious brass key leads Mackey toward secrets tied to a disastrous mission six years earlier.
As Mackey and his former team search for the truth, they face enemies determined to keep the past buried. The story moves from Georgia to Northern Sudan and Syria, exploring the personal cost of betrayal and the loyalty that survives long after a mission ends.
DeWitt separated from the Navy in 2014. His experiences working alongside people from many backgrounds inform his approach to storytelling. Writing military thrillers gives him a way to put his enduring connection to military life and his way of thinking on the page.
The series continues with Ghost Protocol, returning readers to Mackey’s world and the dangers surrounding him and those closest to him. Readers can explore the books and join the Cole Mackey Field List for newsletters and sneak peeks at cmthrillerseries.com.
